Letters: Mean-spirited Sask. Party government agenda is hurting many

So now we hear that the Saskatchewan Party government has turned down a $2-million donation for an MRI in Estevan.

Could it be that they have plans to contract a private company for those services and, thus, further a hidden agenda to privatize more of our health care and perhaps reap some more party corporate donations?

And what about the new marshals service, which will only serve rural areas and the north?

Wouldn’t it be more fiscally prudent and much more effective to give the additional funding to the RCMP who already have detachments, vehicles, trained personnel and infrastructure throughout the province?

Let’s not also forget that millions of dollars of provincial government housing is going unused and that the budget to maintain them had also quietly been slashed all the while that the homelessness crisis has reached epic proportions in this province.

Not to mention that the new social services program that stopped paying landlords for the homeless directly is an unmitigated disaster that also has resulted in more people living on the streets.

This Saskatchewan Party government offers no solutions and just tries to blame its mistakes on the federal Liberal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. They do this while stealthily picking our pockets and trying to distract with mean-spirited unnecessary legislation that harms minorities.

So when they say that they are being open and transparent I suppose it’s true. We can plainly see the Saskatchewan Party government is blatantly misusing our tax dollars to try to placate their base and stay in power while ignoring the needs of the people.

Zachidniak, others deserve more respect

I just viewed the Regina city council meeting recording. Terse answers and a hostile tone were generally a consistent response towards Ward 8 Coun. Shanon Zachidniak while addressing her and the issue of homelessness in Regina.

Her concerns on behalf of her ward’s residents are genuine and well-founded. And her asks were reasonable. Residents of Coun. Zachidniak’s Ward 8 see squatters in sheds, people sleeping in cars and significant offshoot effects of homeless people surviving as they can.

We regularly experience crime, health-and-safety concerns, insurance deductibles and general unease. And that doesn’t even touch on the  humanitarian argument for helping troubled people in jeopardy.

I get that councillors representing less-affected areas don’t see a crisis. They should consider themselves privileged. But when a councillor reasonably asks for support in this matter, show her respect.

How about getting our compost back for free?

I think that since we are paying to have our yard waste hauled away that any Regina homeowner who desires it should get free compost.

Well,  it wouldn’t be entirely free, since we already paid for its removal and since the composting company is going to making a profit off my compost. So shouldn’t I at least be able to get the back compost I have already paid for to use in my yard?
